Acid No-No. Yea, I said it.
Dock Ellis
1945 – 2008
What has been news for quite some time and has recently been brought back to the spotlight is this man’s almost impossible feat of going for the no-no while melting face. We have all heard about it. The guy was high as hell. Ever done acid? If you know, you know. Ever thrown a no hitter while high on acid? Probably not. Me either. The late Robin Williams does a pretty good job of describing what it could have been like.

Robin Williams with what it may have been like for Dock on the bump that night.
REST IN POWER ROBIN.
Here is a link to the trailer. Its free on YouTube so I put the link to that, too, under the trailer.
Dock proclaimed himself the Mohammed Ali of baseball. He was good and he knew it. Outspoken, he couldn’t find a fuck to give in major league baseball. Hell, even in the minors. One time the man chased a fan around the stadium with a bat. He could back it up on the mound. On one occasion he showed up with hair curlers and was initially suspended for 10 days but, ‘resistance’ by the Pirates Officials lead to the suspension being. . .suspended. . . On the field he was intimidating. In 1974 the Pirates faced the Cincinnati Reds. Dock threw directly at the first 5 batters. Hitting 3 of them.
HOLD IT.
Off the field he was flashy and stylish. In ‘No-No: A Dockumentary’ some of the former Pittsburgh Pirates said they were the best dressed team in the league. It was the 70’s. What a time to ball!

Overall. He was a decent pitcher with a nasty ‘spitball.’ He didn’t change the game in anyway but he did make realize that times were changing and there was no one who could stop it.

The guy was unfiltered. He was authentic. True to himself. That is what we are about at HTM. He did it his way and that is pretty fucking cool.
Hold the Mayo.
