Joanna Jedrzejczyk puts Fight Night Tampa in Jeopardy!

Per-ESPN: Saturday’s UFC Fight Night Tampa main event — Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Michelle Waterson — is in jeopardy.

According to multiple sources, Jedrzejczyk informed the UFC over a week ago that she would not be able to make the strawweight limit of 116 pounds. The UFC offered Waterson the opportunity to fight at an agreed upon catchweight, but Waterson’s camp has thus far declined that offer, sources say.

If she misses weight but the fight proceeds, Jedrzejczyk would have to pay Waterson 30 percent of her purse, per the Florida State Boxing Commission. Another option discussed was that the UFC would pay the fine on behalf of Jedrzejczyk because the UFC was notified of her weight issues days ago. The UFC has declined that option so far, and historically doesn’t pay a fighter’s fine.

Apparently Joanna cant make 116lbs in time to weigh in, that’s unfortunate since this was an anticipated fight, on a decent Fight Night card. Missing weight is not something you see often from the higher caliber fighters. American Top Team is a premier fight camp and for them to let one of their marquee fighters to possibly miss weight is mind boggling.

From the outside looking in everything seemed to be on track , as fans we thought clearly she was trying to make the weight, she has posted a few pictures of her weight cutting process to her Instagram account.

The fight isn’t officially off, The UFC seems to be working with both camps, but this close to fight night it will be a hard sell to the Waterson camp on a catchweight bout.  I’d assume Kron Gracie and Cub Swanson will be the main event for Fight Night Tampa.

According to Joanna’s own IG, she instructs us to “Stay Calm”.

UPDATE- 9:58 ET 10/11/2019

Joanna makes weight at 115.5lbs, Waterson weighs in at exactly 115lbs.  Look for the winner to be matched up against Zhang Weili in the next Strawweight Championship Fight.
