Take a good look at her tonight as she steps inside the Octagon. Her nickname “The Future”, hints to her goal as the Future Champ. She’s young, coarse, eccentric, and has all the talent to back it up. She has been a buzzsaw ripping through whoever the UFC has put in front of her. Maycee has a countdown timer on her phone to the date she passes the age that Jon Jones was when he became champ. Barber is on her way to fulfilling that goal as the youngest champ in UFC history.
Tonight Maycee takes a large step forward with a win, over Seventh Ranked Women’s Flyweight Roxanne Modafferi who looks to rain on her parade. Roxanne happens to be Maycee’s first fight with a top ten opponent.
Talking Only Gets You So Far
There has been a new trend in the UFC, fighters talking their way into title fights. It has become toxic to the sport. Barber doesn’t look to take that route, stating during an interview with Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN. “I’m not expecting a title shot after this fight … I’m expecting to fight two to three more times and then hopefully fight for the title at the end of this year,” Barber said. “I want to stay active, for sure.” Barber has backed up everything she has said so far so there is no reason to doubt her now.
I predict an early stoppage win for Maycee. Roxanne is a tough experienced fighter the problem is, I have witnessed Roxanne crumble under pressure. Make sure to keep a watchful eye on The Future, because that’s what she brings pressure on the entire Women’s Flyweight Divison.
