It is back to business this Sunday for our Saints. They have enjoyed a nice week off, but it is time to get back to work and keep this train rolling. The Dirty Birds are coming to town, and despite the fact that they are struggling, they always get up to play us. If the Saints can accomplish these three Keys to the Contest, we should have no problem improving our record to 8-1.
Punch The Dirty Birds in the Mouth Early
The Falcons have not had a very good season to this point. They are win less since Week 2, and our guys are playing the best football in the league. We need to come out and discourage them early. With every week that passes, the Falcons have less and less to play for. If we can come out and jump on their throats early, it will discourage them. Once we get The Dome rockin’, it will be all downhill for the Dirty Birds.
Make Matty Ice Run for His Life
The Saints have the best defensive line in football. Cam Jordan, Sheldon Rankins, Marcus Davenport, David Onyemata, the list goes on. All of our guys are hungry and love to sack the QB. Matt Ryan is coming back from a high ankle sprain. He is not very mobile to begin with, so if we can put him under pressure, it will be like an all you can eat buffet for our defense. To quote Demario Davis, “We prowl. We kill. We eat.” Our defense will have the perfect opportunity to do just that this Sunday.
Play Mistake Free Football
It will be important for the Saints to play a clean game on Sunday. The worst thing that can happen when playing a team that you know you are better than is to do them any favors. We cannot help out the poor Falcons’ defense by shooting ourselves in the foot. We cannot start off drives with holding or false start penalties. Likewise, we cannot give the Falcons any short fields. Our defense has been an elite unit this year, so we need to force the Falcons to start on their own 25-yard line. No cheap turnovers, and no stupid penalties.
So, if the Saints can start fast, terrorize Matt Ryan, and play mistake-free football, it should be a very fun afternoon on Sunday, and we should be going to bed with a record of 8-1! Whodat!
