NolaSportsHub’s Keys to the Contest: Week 12

The Saints got back on track this past Sunday against the Bucs. This Sunday we will have a great chance to all but lock up the NFC South. A win against the Panthers would put us four games ahead of them with five games left to go. There are three things we can do to ensure that we go to bed on Sunday with the division pretty much locked up. These are the week 12 Keys to the Contest.

Contain Christian McCaffery

There is one player on the Panthers who can do some real damage, and that player is Christian McCaffery. He has been playing like one of the best RBs in the league. He has put up 1,059 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns to go with 517 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. The Saints’ goal on defense should be simple…Stop Christian McCaffery, and force Kyle Allen to beat us. Allen is young QB who is in the middle of a slump. Last time out, he threw four picks. If we can contain Christian McCaffery, it will greatly limit the Panthers on offense.

Keep up the defensive momentum from last week

Last week, the Saints’ defense looked like the unit we were used to seeing. We created four turnovers and held the Bucs to 17 points. That was without our best CB, Marshon Lattimore. Besides shutting down Christian McCaffery, the game plan should involve more of the same from last week against the Bucs. Send pressure to the QB, and lock down their receivers. Last week, we held one of the better receivers in the league to 69 yards on four catches, most of which came in garbage time. More of the same should result in a great outcome for our guys!

Play Clean Football

The only negative thing that you could take away from the game against Tampa is the fact that we killed ourselves with penalties. We had two touchdowns taken from by holding penalties. Those penalties could be the difference between winning and losing when we find ourselves in a closer game. We currently have 39 offensive penalties. Our offense is great now, but imagine how great we could be with less penalties!

So, if we can contain Christian McCaffery, keep up the momentum on offense, and play clean football, we will have a great chance to finish this week with a 9-2 record!
