The New Orleans Saints are coming off a great team win against Jacksonville. It does not get any easier this Sunday, as they will be in Chicago to take on the Bears. The Bears may not have a top tier offense, but they do have a top five defense. This means that Teddy, Michael Thomas, and the rest of the guys will have to be on top of their game. There are three things that if the Saints can execute, they will give themselves a great chance to head out of the “Windy City” with a win. Here are week seven’s keys to the contest!
Put Together Good Drives on offense
This Sunday it will be as important as ever for the offense to have a good game. We know that the Bears’ defense is fierce, but if the offense can put together sustained drives, as any defense would, the Bears’ defense will start to wear down. It will be important for the offense to control the game, especially if Alvin Kamara, and Jared Cook will have to be held out due to injury. If the offense can pick up the crucial third downs and finish drives with touchdowns instead of field goals, it may just be too much for the Bears’ offense to overcome.
Create Turnovers on Defense
As we have already mentioned, we know the Bears’ defense will be a tough matchup. That is why it is important for our defense to steal a possession or two and give the offense those extra opportunities. In most cases, the team that has the ball more wins the game. It is that simple. Not only will our defense get to stay fresh for later on in the game, but it gives the offense every opportunity to grab the game by the horns and not let it go.
Have the Offensive Line Play Well
This might just be the most important key to the entire contest. We have got to have good offensive line play if we are going to beat the Bears. As they say, the game is won in the trenches. Khalil Mack and Co. will be doing everything in their power to make Teddy uncomfortable. They are going to hit him when they get the chance, and they are going to try to do the same thing that the Saints’ defense is going to be trying to do. They are going to try to create turnovers and steal possessions for their offense. That is why we need to keep Teddy clean. We also need to be able to run the ball. If the offensive line can open holes for our runners, it will keep the Bears honest. They will be forced to respect the run game, and that will open up the passing game. Just take a look at what Ryan Ramczyk was able do against one of the very best in J.J. Watt. If he and the rest of the offensive line can have a similar performance against Mack, it will do wonders for our offense.
So, if the Saints can put together sustained drives on offense, steal a few possessions on defense, and have solid offensive line play, they will have a great chance at leaving Chicago with a 6-1 record and a nice lead on the rest of the NFC South! Whodat!
