The Who Dat Nation lost a legend on Saturday. Legendary place kicker Tom Dempsey passed away due to complications from Covid-19. At 73 years of age, Dempsey was living in a New Orleans retirement home, where he contracted the virus. As a kid, I had always heard of that legendary kick, but I had to question, did that really happen? A guy with half a foot and probably half a case of Dixie beer in his system, kicked a 63 yard field goal? Yep, that record stood for 43 years. In 1989, Tom Dempsey was enshrined in the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame. Any Saints fan from the baby boomer generation could tell you exactly where they were when the kick was made. That moment for me, was when Steve Gleason blocked the punt in the first game back in the Dome. Rest in peace Mr. Dempsey. Hold It.
